Euville Stone: complete guide
Overview
Euville Stone is a limestone from Lorraine with a light beige, crystalline appearance. It is chosen for façades, stairs and architectural elements that call for strength and a bright surface.
History and origin
It is quarried at Euville, in the Meuse, in Lorraine, and is a historic stone of French construction. It is an entrochal limestone, formed from recrystallised crinoid fragments that give it its typical sparkling appearance. It has been widely used for façades, plinths and civil engineering works. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is light beige with small calcite crystals that reflect the light. The texture is granular and fairly uniform, with limited variations in tone. Honed or brushed, it retains the crystalline effect, while bush-hammered it looks more matt and lighter.
Uses
Suitable for façades, plinths, stairs, thresholds, window sills and interior floors. Not suitable for kitchen worktops or very damp bathrooms without protection.
Care and maintenance
Protect with a breathable water repellent in outdoor applications. Clean with neutral products and avoid acids and aggressive sandblasting.
