Chassagne Stone: complete guide

Overview

Chassagne Stone is a hard limestone from the Côte-d'Or, with a beige background and pinkish nuances. It is chosen for elegant interiors and exteriors where a hard-wearing, polishable stone is needed.

History and origin

It comes from the Chassagne-Montrachet area, in Burgundy, also known for its vineyards. The local quarries have long supplied compact limestones used for floors, stairs, façades and furnishings. Because of its hardness it is classed among the hard limestones, capable of withstanding even heavy traffic. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Appearance

The background is beige with more or less vivid pinkish tones, crossed by thin veins and small darker specks. Colour variations between slabs are present but limited. Polished, it resembles a light marble; honed, it is soft and natural; brushed or antiqued, it takes on a more rustic look.

Uses

Recommended for floors, stairs, bathrooms, cladding and outdoor paving. Not suitable for kitchen worktops because of its sensitivity to acids.

Care and maintenance

Clean with neutral products and treat with a stain-proofing protector. Outdoors a water repellent helps against dirt and damp.
