Lanhélin Granite: complete guide
Overview
Lanhélin is a blue-grey granite from Brittany with a medium, even grain. It is a traditional French stone, valued for its understated appearance and great durability.
History and origin
It takes its name from the commune of Lanhélin, in Brittany, a French region with a long history of granite quarrying and working. It is used in France for construction, urban paving, kerbs and memorial work. Its cool tone suits both historic and contemporary settings. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is grey with bluish highlights, speckled with black mica and light feldspar crystals. The grain is even and the appearance homogeneous, with slight differences between batches. Polished, it looks darker and bluer; flamed or bush-hammered, light grey.
Uses
Suitable for public paving, steps, kerbs, façades, interior floors and kitchen worktops. It withstands salt spray and frost well, so it is also suitable for coastal areas. For those looking for a warm colour, pink or beige granites are more suitable.
Care and maintenance
Clean with water and a neutral detergent. Outdoors, wash periodically and remove lichens in damp areas. A water- and oil-repellent is useful on kitchen worktops.
