Azul Extremadura is a Spanish granite prized for its distinctive blue-grey tone, which sets it apart from more common grey granites. Quarried in Spain, this compact biotitic quartz-diorite shows a medium to fine, uniform grain with subtle darker mineral speckling and soft tonal movement rather than pronounced veining. Its sober, elegant character makes Azul Extremadura suitable for flooring, façade cladding, kitchen worktops, stairs and urban paving, indoors and out. The stone performs well in polished, honed, flamed, sandblasted and brushed finishes, each revealing a different depth of colour. Marmi di Carrara supplies Azul Extremadura granite as blocks, slabs 2 and 3 cm thick and cut-to-size pieces, with photos of the actual slabs before purchase.

Azul Extremadura Granite: complete guide
Overview
Azul Extremadura is a blue-grey granite from Extremadura, in western Spain. It combines a cool, refined colour with the typical strength of granite.
History and origin
Extremadura is one of the most important granite areas of the Iberian Peninsula, and many Spanish greys and blues come from here. Azul Extremadura has been widely used for paving, façades and interiors, both in Spain and abroad. The name refers directly to its region of origin. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
Small black crystals and white feldspar specks stand out against a grey background with a bluish tone. The pattern is dense and uniform, with limited variations in tone between slabs. A polished finish brings out the blue component, while a brushed finish offers a satin look that is pleasant to the touch.
Uses
It is used for kitchen worktops, floors, stairs, façade cladding and pedestrian paving. Its cool tone suits contemporary projects and public spaces well. For outdoor floors with foot traffic, a polished finish is best avoided.
Care and maintenance
Neutral detergents and water are sufficient for routine maintenance. On honed or brushed surfaces a stain-proofing protector makes cleaning easier. No specific anti-limescale treatments are needed, but it is best not to use overly aggressive products over long periods.
