Himalayan Blue is a striking natural granite sourced from the quarries of India, renowned for its deep blue hues ranging from slate to steel grey. This durable igneous stone features a homogeneous granular structure, often without visible veining, making it an ideal choice for contemporary architectural projects. Its robust nature ensures longevity in both interior and exterior applications, including flooring, cladding, kitchen countertops, and bathroom vanities. We recommend honed, polished, or brushed finishes to enhance its natural texture and color depth. As a leading supplier with decades of experience, Marmi di Carrara provides Himalayan Blue in raw blocks and precise slabs of 2 cm or 3 cm thickness, offering cut-to-size solutions. We prioritize transparency by sending high-resolution photos of the actual slabs before purchase, ensuring the chosen Himalaya Blue matches your design vision exactly.
Petrographic description
Typically a medium to coarse-grained granite characterized by a dominant blue to grey-blue matrix. The composition generally includes plagioclase feldspar, quartz, and mafic minerals such as biotite or hornblende, which contribute to its distinctive cool-toned appearance.
Himalayan Blue is a Granite quarried in India, catalogued in the Marmi di Carrara atlas under the international reference ICINGR00232. Its dominant tone is blue.
Like every granite, it is supplied as raw blocks, gangsaw slabs in 2 and 3 cm and cut-to-size pieces made in our Carrara plants. Recommended finishes: polished, honed, flamed, bush-hammered, leathered. Typical applications: kitchen worktops, exterior cladding and paving, stairs, monuments, high-traffic floors.
Availability varies with the quarry campaigns: before quoting we check current stock, block sizes and the selection grade, and we send photos of the actual slabs. Price and transport are confirmed by our technical office within one working day.
Himalayan Blue Granite: complete guide
Overview
Himalayan Blue is a commercial granite in blue-grey tones, crossed by light, wavy veins. It is chosen to create fresh, lively surfaces without giving up the hardness of a siliceous stone.
History and origin
It is an Indian material with a gneissic structure, with aligned bands of minerals that create its typical wavy pattern. It spread on the international market as an alternative to rarer and more expensive blue stones. The actual colour depends on the block: some batches are greyer, others cooler and bluer. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is grey with blue highlights, crossed by white, grey and sometimes slightly pinkish bands. The pattern is marked and changes from slab to slab, so for large worktops sequential slabs are used. Polishing intensifies the blue, while honing makes it softer and more powdery.
Uses
Suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom tops, cladding and floors indoors, as well as thresholds and window sills outdoors. For large outdoor floors an anti-slip finish is preferable.
Care and maintenance
Clean with a neutral detergent and water; avoid abrasive products, which can dull the polish. A periodic impregnating sealer helps prevent oil marks on worktops.
