Blue Pearl Granite: the complete guide
Overview
Blue Pearl Granite is a blue-grey stone studded with crystals that reflect light with blue and silver flashes. It is chosen for kitchen worktops, bathrooms and façades with an elegant, luminous character.
History and origin
It comes from Norway, where larvikite is quarried, an igneous rock commercially classified among granites. It is known and used worldwide for the characteristic iridescent effect of its feldspars. It is found in hotels, shops, façades and residential kitchens. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is grey with blue hues. The large feldspar crystals show shimmering blue reflections that change with the viewing angle. It is fairly uniform between slabs; polished brings out the iridescence to the full, while honed and flamed finishes greatly reduce it.
Uses
Excellent for kitchen worktops, bathrooms, floors, stairs, ventilated façades and exterior cladding. To keep the iridescent effect, polished is preferred; for outdoor floors, non-slip finishes are considered.
Care and maintenance
Clean with water and a neutral detergent; it copes well with everyday use and household acids. An impregnator can further reduce the absorption of oils. Avoid overly aggressive detergents that can dull the polish over time.
