Bateig Azul: complete guide
Overview
Bateig Azul is a very fine-grained Spanish calcarenite with a grey-blue tone. It is chosen for its homogeneity and ease of working, which make it ideal for cladding and carved pieces.
History and origin
It comes from the province of Alicante, in south-eastern Spain, an area known for quarrying limestones. Bateig is a sedimentary stone composed of cemented grains, highly valued for façades, cladding and artistic work. It is available in several shades, including Azul and Blanca. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is grey-blue, fine and uniform, with occasional specks or slight streaks. Variability between slabs is low, a characteristic that makes large, even surfaces easier. Honed, it looks velvety; sandblasted or brushed, it takes on a slightly lighter, more textured tone.
Uses
It is suitable for façades, indoor and outdoor cladding, columns, cornices, balustrades and sculptures. For flooring, indoor use with moderate traffic is preferable; it is not recommended for kitchen worktops or surfaces very exposed to staining.
Care and maintenance
Apply a breathable water repellent for outdoor applications and a stain-proofing product indoors. Clean with neutral detergents and avoid acids and abrasive sponges.
