Sierra Chica Granite: complete guide
Overview
Sierra Chica is an Argentinian granite with a grey background and pinkish tinges. It is chosen for paving, cladding and street furniture where a neutral-warm colour and a robust stone are needed.
History and origin
Sierra Chica comes from Argentina, where the name is linked to an area with a quarrying tradition in the province of Buenos Aires. The granite has long been used for road paving, kerbs and construction. Today it is also offered as slabs for indoor and outdoor use. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is medium grey with pinkish feldspar crystals and dark minerals in small grains. The effect is a warm grey, with limited variations in tone. Polishing makes the pink component more visible, while rough finishes make it look an even light grey.
Uses
Suitable for outdoor floors, kerbs, setts, stairs and façades. Indoors it can be used for floors, thresholds and kitchen and bathroom worktops. In pedestrian areas a flamed or sandblasted finish is advisable.
Care and maintenance
It requires no special treatments: clean with water and a neutral detergent. A water-repellent impregnator limits staining in outdoor areas exposed to dirt or oils.
