African Red Granite: the complete guide

Overview

African Red Granite is a medium-grained red-brown South African granite, speckled with black. It is chosen for its warm, long-lasting colour, appreciated in exteriors, monuments and cladding.

History and origin

It comes from South Africa, a country with a long tradition of quarrying coloured granites for export. Its intense red tone has made it widespread in funerary art, façades and street furniture. It fits well into both classic settings and modern projects. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Appearance

The background is brick red or red-brown, with black and grey crystals evenly distributed. The slabs are fairly homogeneous, with slight variations in tone between batches. Polished, it takes on a deep, brilliant red; flamed, it becomes pinkish-red and rough.

Uses

Suitable for façades, outdoor floors, stairs, monuments, kitchen worktops and bathroom tops. It withstands frost and weathering very well.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and a neutral detergent; outdoors, periodic washing is sufficient. A water-repellent protector is useful on flamed finishes.
