Petrographic description
Oulainen Black is a Granite quarried in Finland, catalogued in the Marmi di Carrara atlas under the international reference ICFIGR00129. Its dominant tone is black.
Like every granite, it is supplied as raw blocks, gangsaw slabs in 2 and 3 cm and cut-to-size pieces made in our Carrara plants. Recommended finishes: polished, honed, flamed, bush-hammered, leathered. Typical applications: kitchen worktops, exterior cladding and paving, stairs, monuments, high-traffic floors.

Overview
Oulainen Black is a black stone from northern Finland, sold as granite. It combines an elegant dark colour with considerable surface hardness.
History and origin
Oulainen is in Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland. The material is one of the Nordic blacks, basic igneous rocks appreciated for their compactness and ability to take a polish. These stones have a long history of use in memorial work and prestigious cladding. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The black background may show a fine grain with slight greyish glints. The pattern is uniform and suited to continuous surfaces, with small variations between blocks. Polished, it is glossy; brushed, warmer and more tactile.
Uses
Suitable for monuments, headstones, kitchen worktops, bathrooms, cladding and architectural details. Outdoors it withstands frost and bad weather. Polished finishes should be avoided on outdoor steps because of the risk of slipping.
Care and maintenance
Clean with water and a neutral detergent, drying to prevent marks. To revive the black use only products made for granite, never cooking oils.
