Lappia Blue Granite: the complete guide
Overview
Lappia Blue Granite is a Finnish granite in blue-grey tones, understated and uniform. It is chosen when a cool, discreet stone with the technical performance of Nordic granites is needed.
History and origin
The name recalls Lapland (Lappi), the northern region of Finland. The country has a long tradition of quarrying granites for construction and street furniture, thanks to its ancient, compact rocks. Lappia Blue is a less widespread variety than the classic Nordic reds and greys and is offered for projects seeking a cool shade. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is grey with bluish highlights, due to the combination of dark and light minerals in the grain. The pattern is generally homogeneous, with limited variation in tone between slabs from the same block. Polishing enhances the blue component, while flamed and bush-hammered finishes lighten the surface and make it greyer.
Uses
Suitable for floors, stairs, façade cladding and street furniture, including in harsh climates. Indoors it is used for kitchen worktops and bathroom vanity tops with clean lines.
Care and maintenance
A neutral detergent is enough; avoid harsh abrasive products on polished surfaces. Outdoors, textured finishes can also be cleaned with a pressure washer at moderate pressure.
