Pekkala Pink Granite: complete guide
Overview
Pekkala Pink is a pinkish granite from Finland. It is appreciated for its warm colour and its resistance, which makes it suitable for both interiors and exteriors.
History and origin
It is one of the pink granites quarried in Finland, a country where natural stone is a long-established industry. Materials of this type are exported throughout Europe for cladding, paving and memorial work. Its pinkish tone sets it apart from the grey and black granites more common in the north. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background has pink tones verging on salmon, with grey quartz and dark patches of biotite. The distribution of the crystals is fairly regular, with colour variations from one lot to another. Polished, it looks lively; bush-hammered, it becomes a light, matt pink.
Uses
It is used for façade cladding, floors, steps, fountains, monuments and tops. Outdoors it withstands frost well. For extensive projects it is advisable to buy all the material from a single lot.
Care and maintenance
Water and a neutral detergent for routine cleaning. Avoid washing with strong acids during installation, which could stain the joints and dull the polish.
