Negro Monterrey: complete guide
Overview
Negro Monterrey is a black marble of Mexican origin. It is chosen for dark, elegant surfaces where a deep background with little pattern is needed.
History and origin
It comes from Mexico, a country with significant production of marbles and limestones. It is an imported material less widespread in Europe than Spanish or Moroccan blacks. It is offered to those looking for an alternative black for cladding and furnishings. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is black or a very dark anthracite grey. Fine veins or small light spots may appear, in varying quantities between slabs. Polishing gives a deep, reflective black, while honing tends towards dark grey.
Uses
Recommended for walls, bathrooms, vanity tops, fireplaces, furnishings and interior floors. Not recommended for kitchen worktops, where acid dulling stands out on the dark background. Avoid it outdoors, where black tends to fade.
Care and maintenance
Clean with a neutral detergent and dry to avoid limescale marks. Protect with a stain-repellent product that does not alter the colour. Marks and scratches can be remedied with professional re-polishing.
